In December 2023, Women in Rail Malaysia collaborated with YTL Construction organising a dialogue with 40 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Business Studies at Universiti Malaya, in conjunction with International Men’s Day.
During this event, YTL Construction’s Senior Project Manager, Luis Miguel and Women in Rail Malaysia’s Executive Director, Nina Jamil engaged in an enlightening 1.5 hour discussion centered on “Men and Gender Equality: Partners in Promoting Equality.”
In the session, Nina emphasized the belief that gender equality should begin at home. She said it was important to recognize that gender equality is not solely a women’s issue but a collective concern that involves everyone.
With both Nina and Luis working in a predominantly male industry, they shared their perspectives on the pressing need for collaboration between both men and women in advancing equality. They emphasized how every individual, irrespective of gender, should play an active role in creating a more equitable society and workplace. The conversation included the exchange of ideas and personal stories, highlighting the crucial role that each person holds in fostering fairness and equality.
This engagement with university students reflects Women in Rail Malaysia’s commitment to engaging with the younger generation, in promoting meaningful conversations about equality and also pushing forward the idea of shared responsibilities. Equality isn’t about providing special treatment; it’s about ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed.
