Knowledge Sharing Session Non Technical Job Opportunities in the Railway Industry 2020

On 26th and 27th February, SIPPYTL in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department organized a safety briefing session in relation to the Gemas Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Railway Project to the school students around Bekok and Segamat. Schools that were nearest to the railway track construction were chosen for this briefing as they are exposed to the big machineries and on-going track construction works. The schools chosen are as follows:
1. SJK (C) BEKOK
2. SJK (T) BEKOK
3. SMK PADUKA TUAN, SEGAMAT
4. SMK DATO’ BENTARA DALAM, SEGAMAT

Women in Rail Malaysia was given a slot in between the briefing session to talk about the non-technical job opportunities in the rail industry. The session was conducted by Ms.Michelle Tan, a Project Manager from MMC Gamuda and also an active member of Women in Rail Malaysia.

Ms.Michelle shared with the students her career path starting from her schooling days to university and current work life. She also told the students about her active involvement in all the activities and events carried out by Women in Rail Malaysia.

Ms.Michelle encouraged the students to be more adventurous in life and told them to be brave and try new things. She taught the students on how to set small targets and accomplish them and also reminded them to be the best version of themselves instead of trying to be somebody else.

Most importantly, Ms.Michelle reminded the students the importance of reading and encouraged them to cultivate the reading habit. Overall, the students were attentive listeners and active participants during the Q&A session.

Women in Rail Malaysia strongly believes that the participation of the student in these activities will not only open them to potential career opportunities but will also ensure that the future Malaysian rail industry is more diverse and competitive.
