Knowledge Sharing Session – Non Technical Job Opportunities in The Rail Industry

YTL Construction Sdn Bhd & SIPP Rail Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department organized a briefing session on the safety measures and tips that should be practiced by the school students who live near the Gemas – JB Electrified Double Track Project construction area. The session was conducted at 4 selected schools around the area of Kulai and Johor Bahru namely, SK Kempas, SK Taman Bukit Kempas, SK Layang-Layang and SJK(T) Ladang Sedenak.

Women in Rail Malaysia was given a slot in between the briefing session to talk about the non-technical job opportunities in the rail industry. The session was conducted by Ms.Hidayah Hassan, a Corporate Strategist from CMC Group Sdn Bhd and also an active member of Women in Rail Malaysia.

Ms.Hidayah shared with the students her career path starting from her schooling days to university and current work life. She also told the students about her active involvement in all the activities and events carried out by Women in Rail Malaysia.

Ms.Hidayah persuaded the students to step out of their comfort zone, have passion for knowledge, take up challenges and face obstacles in life. Apart from that, she also coaxed the female students to thrive in a male dominated field and to focus on both technical and social skills like persuasion, emotional intelligence and teaching others.

The students were attentive listeners, observant and responded well during the session. Women in Rail Malaysia firmly believes that the student’s involvement in such activities will not only expose them to future career options, but also ensure that the Malaysian rail industry of tomorrow is a more diverse and dynamic one.
