On 30th October 2024, Women in Rail Malaysia (WIRM) had the privilege of hosting our 13th Leadership Talk, featuring Ms. Jane Power, the 100th President of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE). Held in collaboration with IRSE Malaysia, this session provided an incredible opportunity for professionals in the rail industry to learn from a global leader with over 30 years of expertise in railway signalling and major infrastructure projects.
Jane Power, who is leading efforts on the Four Lines Modernisation Project (4LM) with Transport for London (TFL), shared invaluable insights into leadership, innovation and the evolving landscape of railway technology. Throughout her career, she has navigated complex challenges in a traditionally male-dominated industry, and her journey serves as an inspiration for women looking to carve their own paths in the field.
During her talk, Jane highlighted the importance of breaking barriers for women in rail, sharing personal experiences and lessons learned along the way. She discussed the impact of modern railway signalling, the role of leadership in major infrastructure projects as well as the future of rail transport amid rapid technological advancements.
Following the talk, participants had the chance to engage in a dynamic Q&A session, where the participants explored topics like overcoming challenges in leadership and the latest advancements in railway signalling. The session was concluded with a networking lunch.
