Empowering Women in The Workplace: Leveraging Your Strengths for Effective Leadership

On 11th January 2024, Women in Rail Malaysia collaborated with YTL Learning Academy to host the first workshop of the year, focusing on empowering women in the workplace. Gill How, co-founder of the UK’s Women in Transport Leadership Programme and a member of Women in Rail in the United Kingdom led the workshop. It aimed to boost participants’ confidence and effectiveness in both their personal and professional lives.

The workshop brought together 25 professionals from various sectors to explore strategies for maximizing their capabilities, enhancing leadership skills and fostering career growth. Personalised guidance on addressing weaknesses was also provided to each participant.

Throughout the workshop, attendees gained insights into identifying strengths within themselves and their teams and learned how to leverage them to enhance leadership contributions. Using the leadership triangle model, Gill also illustrated how strengths, both personal and within teams, could be harnessed to drive success. Participants also gained a new perspective on addressing weaknesses, reframing them as opportunities for growth.

Reflecting on the transformative experience, Azila from MRT Corp, Malaysia, said, “The training enlightened me on the role of a leader as a conductor, guiding both oneself and the team towards greatness. Recognizing our strengths and weaknesses, coupled with a plan for enhancement, is indispensable for steering ourselves and our teams on the path to success. The training offered invaluable insights and reminders on effective leadership.”

Tiffany Wen of YTL Construction expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m grateful for the empowering experience at this workshop, where I learned to articulate my strengths and weaknesses. Connecting with inspiring women in the industry was great.”
